Elm Fork Site 7A EWP Repair

Structure Site No. 7A is a single-purpose, low hazard, earthen dam designed in 1957 and constructed in 1958 for flood prevention and sediment retention.  The structure is an integral part of the Elm Fork Watershed of the Trinity River Watershed Work Plan.  Site No. 7A is located on Dry Elm Creek, a tributary of Elm Fork of the Trinity River.  The site is situated in the Grand Prairie Land Resource Area of Texas, approximately 4 miles north of Muenster, Cooke County, Texas.

Heavy rainfalls occurred in May and June of 2015 resulting in a significant discharge through the auxiliary spillway of Site No. 7A.  The resultant discharge created massive erosion in the exit channel of the auxiliary spillway.  Several headcut have progressed from the natural outlet channel to the downstream crest section of the auxiliary spillway.  The objective of this repair design is to abandoned the existing auxiliary spillway and construct a new auxiliary spillway with a roller compacted concrete (RCC) chute over the existing embankment.
